Following the recent launch of its improvement plans for Penn Inn Roundabout, Newton Abbot Community Interest Company has held its first volunteer gardening afternoons at the roundabout.

The first step in the improvements will be to plant a bed of exotic plants kindly donated by local nursery Plant World. Following on from the creation of the first flowerbed, the CIC plan to plant some beautiful trees, shrubs and bulbs between now and spring 2019.

John Pike, Vice Chair of the CIC commented that “our ambition is to make Penn Inn Roundabout a safe and attractive public space. We have been delighted by the enthusiastic response we have already received to our plans. We are already working with a team of volunteers but would love to hear from anyone else who would like to get involved”.

The CIC is very grateful for the support we have received from local nursery Plant World, local horticulturalist David Howard, Devon County Council, Teignbridge District Council and Newton Abbot Town Council.

Newton Abbot CIC is offering sponsorship opportunities for local business and organisations, as well as the chance for members of the public to sponsor a shrub for just £5. The CIC is also keen to hear the views of local people regarding their plans for the roundabout. You can come along to the next volunteer afternoon to give your comments, or send your views to manager@newtonabbotcic.org.uk.

There will be a further volunteer afternoon from 2.00 pm on Thursday 12th April. All are welcome to join in. Please bring gloves and a garden fork if you have them.
