Clubs and Groups at The Buckland Centre

Mayflower Club

The Mayflower Club is a social group for ages 55+ which hosts games such as Bingo on Fridays from 1pm until 4pm and Darts on Tuesdays from 1:30pm until 3:30pm.

Newton Abbot Ki Aikido Club

Welcome to Newton Abbot Ki Aikido Club. Sensei Philip Valentine started Ki Aikido in 1991 in Totnes practising under Sensei John Stoner. Having been an assistant teacher there for 5 years he opened his own club in Newton Abbot in 2000.

He continues to practise regularly and attends high grade classes and teachers courses at the Ki Federation HQ, taught by Sensei Williams. He was awarded his 6th Dan in 2014.

A warm and friendly welcome awaits you at our club where we have students, both male and female, of all ages. Lessons are conducted in a respectful and disciplined manner yet we soon discover the study of Ki is enjoyable, stimulating (for both mind and body) and captivating. In short, GREAT FUN!

So please feel free to come along, ask questions either before the lesson starts and/or have a chat with us all in the tea break. We look forward to seeing you soon!

The Newton Abbot Shaolin Kung Fu Centre

With 12 years of experience in the Martial Arts and Self Defence craft, The Newton Abbot Shaolin Kung Fu Centre provides Street Self Defence and Traditional Martial Arts to customers throughout the local area.

With a well equipped training facility and fully qualified instructors, the company delivers a professional service to local people. It is designed to be rewarding and fun, helping clients to be confident with self defence and live a healthier lifestyle.

The Newton Abbot Shaolin Kung Fu Centre has a small group of students, based around Newton Abbot, including some local to The Buckland Centre; where it is based.

Coffee Morning

Come and join us on Wednesdays from 10:30am until 12pm for our weekly coffee morning. Have a drink, a chat and make some new friends!

The Base Youth Club

The Base Youth Club provides a safe and fun environment for young people. Junior Youth Club is for ages 7 to end of year 6 is open on a Friday evening from 6pm-8pm during term time, during term time.

We are always looking for new volunteers to help support the Club. All adult volunteers will be required to submit an application and complete a DBS Check. Please contact the Club via Facebook or by email to youth@newtonabbotcic.org.uk if you are interested in volunteering.

Short Mat Bowls

A friendly, low cost pastime which can be enjoyed by all ages. Short Mat Bowls takes place Sundays and Thursdays between 6pm and 9pm.

Recent events have effected all of us in different ways, and you deserve support in trying times. We offer a safe space to seek support. If you’re having housing problems, anxiety, stress, or are in debt just walk in on Tuesday mornings between 10am and 12pm- no booking required.
